, In recent times, automobile scientists have focused a lot upon the
fuel economy and energy conservation in motor vehicles. The
search for alternate fuels and the minimization of thermal and
mechanical losses in motor engines has been a major topic of
research for the past several decades. In an automobile, one of the
most complicated systems in terms of mechanical losses is the
engine valve train. Several theoretical and experimental models
have been used to calculate the losses in engine valve train and
the effect of various engine parameters on the frictional losses.
The work presented in this article focuses upon the drive and
friction torque values for four different commercially available
oils of the same grade i.e., 10W-40. These oils are Shell, Castrol,
Kixx and ZIC. The tests are carried out on a Suzuki swift RS413
gasoline engine cylinder head. The variation in drive and friction
torques with oil temperature and camshaft speed is presented. The
results show the comparisons of these four oils for the drive and
friction torque values and based on these results, conclusions are
given regarding the best oil in terms of friction performance of
the given engine valve train. It is thus concluded in this thesis that
Kixx is the oil with the least value of average friction torque for
the given experimental conditions and is therefore the best one
among the four oils compared.

, Refrigerators being used for domestic purposes are of three types, namely static,
brewed, and no-frost. The aim of this project was to introduce a new compartment in static
refrigerators to enhance the quality and freshness of food present in this compartment. It was
achieved by having control over temperature depending on the needs of the user and needs for
the type of food inside the compartment. There can be two methods to fabricate this special
compartment. One is by using parallel evaporators and other is by using fan and airduct. The
parallel evaporator method is expensive but highly efficient, while air duct is less expensive
and does not compromise enough efficiency, in term of energy consumption and cooling. The
airduct was implanted in the refrigerator and results were taken. The result shows the total time
to reach the target temperature, and time to drop per half degree of temperature. The target was
to set the temperature at any value between 5 to -5 oC. In this project, the minimum temperature
achieved was -1 oC, as the average temperature of evaporator goes to -12 oC, rather than the -
18 oC for most of the domestic refrigerators.

, In the field of biomedical, a cell counting device is used for the counting of cells or
microparticles for the treatment of different kinds of diseases. The research based on the inertial
flow microfluidic focused cell counting. The aim of study is to design and development of a
low-cost microfluidic counting device for counting of particles in a focused microchannel. The
counting of particles is independent of size, device can be count for different sizes. Using
fluorescent microscope and AM Scope the image-based counting has been done at different
sized microchannels. Which were fabricated using 3d printed mold and PDMS pouring on the
mold. PDMS and Glass slide is bonded using plasma bonding. In the research work,
comparison between two scopes have been verified at two different particles solution ratio. The
image-based counting has been done by taking videos from the scope’s cameras. The particles
counting validated by counting the particles using a commercial device Hemocytometer.
Results from both the scopes are mainly same, the counting from any of scope can be done and
it can be done on mobile phone in future as the results are almost same for both the cases. There
were three channel sizes and four different flow rates on which the experiment performed. The
experiment performed in a clean room, which shows that the device having least dimension is
best for counting microparticles. Also, the counting depends on the flow rate of the solution
because increasing the flow rate decrease in total count of microparticles. It can used in lab
tests for medical diagnostics, can be portable, easy to use and a low-cost device.
