By Dilawar, Shakeel . . 134p. , Metal additive manufacturing often uses powder bed fusion (PBF), a renowned technology that selectively fuses metal powder particles in a bed using a laser or electron beam to create threedimensional objects. The metal powder exposed to the laser undergoes enormous temperature and phase change variations in a short period of time during PBF, resulting in undesired thermal stresses known as residual stresses. To quantify these stresses, the bridge curvature method (BCM) was applied. Multiscale modelling using adaptive coarsening was used to predict distortions based on experimentally validated models. Taguchi and Response Surface Method (TM and RSM) were used to minimize residual stress in stainless steel 316L. Based on optimal parametric results for minimal residual stress from part-scale simulation and statistical techniques, the parts were printed avoiding costly experiments. There was a minimum 8% error between optimized predicted and experimental results. The approach used was critical in lowering computational printing expense. The effects of individual parameters and their combinations in terms of energy density on residual stress were also analyzed. The relationship between residual stress, hatch spacing, scanning speed, and power in metal additive manufacturing can be characterized by an initial increase in residual stress, followed by a decrease as hatch spacing and scanning speed are increased, while power is also increased. The effect of beam diameter is very nominal and diminishes in comparison with energy density parameters. 30cm.

With a focus on hormonal imbalances as key contributors to depression, our investigation explores the potential therapeutic effects of Levothyroxine (LT4) in the context of ANP. Utilizing an early weaning mouse model involving maternal separation, we conducted a detailed examination of the anxiolytic effects of LT4, aiming to evaluate its efficacy in alleviating symptoms associated with anxiety and depression. Behavioral assessments and histological analyses were employed to comprehensively evaluate the impact of LT4 on ANP. This study also extends to molecular investigations using RT-PCR to analyze the distribution and expression of ANP within the mouse central nervous system, highlighting the cortex region. Our findings reveal significant differences in brain expression levels of ANP between treated mice and those exhibiting depressive symptoms. This insight suggests potential therapeutic applications of ANP for mitigating depression, presenting intriguing avenues for further research, particularly in the context of depression-induced mouse models through parental separation. This research contributes to an enriched understanding of the complex factors influencing depression and proposes interventions that extend beyond conventional approaches. However, BCIs have traditionally been constrained to single-task applications. Multitask learning (MTL) offers a promising solution by enabling BCIs to handle multiple related tasks simultaneously, enhancing both performance and usability.This study applied MTL to EEG data from N-back working memory tasks (0-back, 2-back, and 3-back) using openaccess data from 26 participants at Technische Universität Berlin. We developed a novel hybrid CNN-LSTM-tAPEformer architecture that integrates Convolutional Neural Networks for spatial feature extraction, Long Short-Term Memory networks for temporal sequence modeling, and Transformer blocks with specialized attention mechanisms for capturing long-range temporal dependencies. The proposed model performs dual functions by classifying accurate behavioral responses while simultaneously measuring cognitive workload across varying task complexity levels. Notable innovations include the development of Time Absolute Position Encoding (tAPE) that enhances temporal processing by integrating sinusoidal positional encoding with adaptive channel-specific encoding to preserve temporal relationships in EEG data. The system incorporates regional and temporal self-attention mechanisms along with global attention pooling to achieve enhanced neural pattern detection. Through leave-one-subject-out cross-validation methodology, the model was trained using data from all participants except one, then evaluated on the excluded individual to assess cross-subject generalization performance. Long-Term Temperature Forecasting using Deep Learning and Extreme Indices Computation /

By Munir, Safdar . . 105p. , Climate change has intensified the demand for accurate long-term temperature forecasting, particularly in highly vulnerable regions such as Pakistan, where rising temperatures and extreme events threaten agriculture, water security, public health, and infrastructure. Conventional climate models, including General Circulation Models (GCMs) and Regional Climate Models (RCMs), provide essential large-scale projections but face constraints in spatial resolution, computational cost, and applicability in data-scarce contexts. Recent advances in deep learning offer powerful alternatives, capable of capturing complex nonlinear relationships and producing high-resolution forecasts that can also inform the computation of extreme climate indices. This study integrates DL based forecasting with extreme temperature index computation to generate actionable insights for adaptation planning in Major Cities of Pakistan. Daily temperature data from the EC-EARTH3-VEG climate model (converted to °C) were bias-corrected using quantile mapping under two Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSP4.8 and SSP5.85). After data preprocessing multiple deep learning models LSTM, CNN-LSTM, Transformer, Transformer XL and Deep Ensemble with Monte Carlo (MC) Dropout, were trained on 1980–2040 data and evaluated for 2040–2050 and then forecasted till 2100. Model was assessed using MAE, RMSE, R² with MC dropout. Deep Ensemble outperformed all the single model (MAE = 0.4588; RMSE = 0.751; R² = 0.992). Projections indicate a Tmax rise of ~2–4 °C and Tmin rise of ~1.5–3 °C by 2100. According to extreme climates indices calculation there continue to be increases in warming, especially with regards to more heat waves that last longer in addition to increases in the number of hot days and warm nights as well as fewer frost days. The warming of nights more than the warming of days, closing the diurnal temperature range. There is also more total precipitation which is distributed in a growing number of days, and longer periods of rain which means that heavier rains are becoming less common, which indicates the beginnings of a warmer, more humid, but drier and stressed climate. The study highlights that DL Ensemble frameworks can deliver robust, long term temperature projections and calculation of extreme indices for 25 major cities of Pakistan and for sake of brevity only data of Lahore, Karachi, Quetta and Gilgit city shown in paper reset are in appendix. 30cm.

Microplastic Behavior in Idealistic Exhalation Dynamics: Exploring Shape, Density, and Diameter Effects Using CFD /

While extensive research has focused on particle deposition during inhalation, the exhalation phase, a critical component of the complete respiratory cycle, remains comparatively less explored. The study aims at addressing this research gap by conducting a comprehensive computational investigation into the deposition dynamics of microplastic particles during exhalation within an idealized human tracheobronchial airway model from generations G3–G6. A three-dimensional airway geometry was constructed via Weibel's morphometric data, adjusted for a 50-year-old adult. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations are performed using the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) approach with the (SST) 𝑘-𝜔 turbulence model. The Discrete Phase Model (DPM) was employed to track trajectories of spherical microplastic particles 2-22 µm under four exhalation flow rates 125, 300, 500, and 1000 ml/s, representing varying breathing intensities from resting to heavy exercise. The results demonstrate an inverse relationship between exhalation flow rate and overall deposition efficiency (DE). Lower flow rates resulted in the highest DE, as particles had greater residence time for gravitational sedimentation and were less influenced by turbulent dispersion. In contrast, higher flow rates generated significant turbulent kinetic energy, which enhanced particle mixing and reduced net deposition. Furthermore, deposition was strongly governed by inertial impaction, as evidenced by a positive correlation with the Stokes number. Spatial analysis revealed that while high flow rates created intense deposition hotspots at major bifurcations, the cumulative particle deposition isXIV significantly lower than at gentler flow rates, where deposition is more widespread. This study concludes that gentle exhalation poses a greater risk for microplastic retention in the lower bronchial airways. The findings challenge the assumption that higher airflow invariably leads to increased deposition and provide crucial insights into the mechanisms of particle exposure during the exhalation phase. 30cm.

High-Density Surface Electromyography for the Assessment and Evaluation of Low Back Pain /

By Shabbir, Nida . . 94p. , Low back pain (LBP) is one of the most prevalent musculoskeletal disorders worldwide, with diagnosis often relying on subjective evaluation rather than objective physiological measures. This thesis introduces a data-driven framework for quantitative assessment of LBP using high-density surface electromyography (HD-sEMG). As a non-invasive technique, HD-sEMG provides insight into spinal neuromuscular behavior, enabling spatial and temporal characterization of muscle activity patterns associated with dysfunction. The study recruited 39 participants, divided into three groups that are healthy, sub-clinical, and LBP based on chiropractic evaluation. In the first study, machine learning classifiers including Support Vector Machine (SVM), eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) were trained on time and frequencydomain features to discriminate between groups. The SVM model achieved the highest accuracy, effectively distinguishing subtle neuromuscular differences between healthy and dysfunctional subjects. In the second study, a regression-based framework was developed to predict vertebral joint dysfunction scores (C1-Sacral) derived from chiropractic assessment. ANN and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models were trained under a CORAL (Consistent Rank Logits) ordinal regression framework, preserving the ordinal nature of dysfunction severity. The ANN model demonstrated superior predictive performance, capturing non-linear relationships between HD-sEMG activity and graded dysfunction levels. Overall, this research bridges the gap between clinical assessment and computational diagnostics, showing that HD-sEMG signatures can objectively quantify spinal dysfunction and support data-driven LBP diagnosis. The proposed framework establishes a foundation for personalized rehabilitation, automated dysfunction mapping, and AI-assisted musculoskeletal diagnostics, advancing the integration of biomedical signal processing with clinical neurophysiology. 30cm.
