, The production of glass packaging requires a lot of energy and resources, and as the world's
population rises, particularly in emerging nations, so does the demand for glass packaging.
Although developing nations are also suffering from the effects of climate change, there is
relatively little study on environmental impact assessment and analysis, notably the environmental
impacts brought on by the activities related to glass manufacturing. This work conducted a
thorough life cycle assessment (LCA) for the production of glass packaging in Pakistan in order
to close this research gap of quantification of the environmental impacts of glass packaging
production. The LCA was carried out for three distinct types of glass packaging solutions (amber,
flint, and green), considering 1-ton of glass as the functional unit. The creation of several scenarios
allowed for the analysis of the effects and the generation of ideas for ways to lessen the negative
effects of glass manufacture on the environment. The study's methodology used a cradle-to-gate
approach. From the perspective of the life cycle inventory, the main data were gathered from a
renowned glass industry situated in one of Pakistan's designated industrial zones, and the
secondary data were obtained from the Ecoinvent database. Environmental impacts were measured
at midpoint and endpoint levels utilizing the ReCiPe 2016 approach and SimaPro V 9.2 as the
software tool. Results indicated that the extraction and processing of raw material had worse
impacts on the environment. At plant level the consumption of natural gas for the melting purposes
and electricity consumed from national grid had highest impacts on the environment. The
comparison of three packaging solutions indicated that the production of green glass was more
harmful to the environment, followed by the production of amber glass and flint glass came out to
be more environmentally friendly among the three packaging solutions. The alternative scenarios
were generated by changing the energy-mix and the cullet ratios and the results were compared
with the baseline scenarios for different midpoint and endpoint impact categories. The alternative
scenarios for the energy mix were also compared for different kinds of emissions to air especially
the greenhouse gas emissions. The report also identified a number of significant implications. This
study may serve as a guide for future research on the environmental impact of the glass packaging
industry, particularly in Pakistan and other developing nations. In this sense, developing nations
would work toward net-zero emissions and sustainable development goals

, An ever increasing demand of manufactured products calls for new manufacturing techniques
that are cost effective and efficient. The global population is at an unprecedented rise and
anticipating an increased demand for efficient, cheap and durable vehicles as well as automobile
parts is nothing but obvious. With a population of over 216 million people, Pakistan stands 5thin
the global ranking population wise. The population boom in Pakistan is growing at the rate of
about 1.8pc a year, which, when extrapolated to the year 2030, brings out a staggering figure of
240 million people. With little growth in the industrial sector of Pakistan, the local market is
forced to import goods for the Pakistani consumer. This presents the businesses and
manufacturers all over the world a great opportunity to attract a huge mass of potential buyers in
the Pakistani market. However, being a struggling economy, the import culture immensely
upsets the balance of imports and exports of Pakistan. The purpose of this research is to promote
a cost effective means of manufacturing for the local firms in order to counter the huge influx of
imports. Novel techniques will not only promote the culture of research and development in the
country, but will also enable the local manufacturers to explore options to fulfil the demand in
the local market and provide opportunities for indigenous talent to play their part in the
economic development of the nation.
Single Point Incremental Forming (SPIF) is a relatively new technique of sheet metal forming. It
is a die-less process that shapes the metal sheet in incremental steps for precision and accuracy.
The process is relatively simple; a tool path is generated in accordance with the CAD model, the
metal sheet is subjected to forming force via computer numeric controlled tool in presence of a
lubricant. Once the tool completes its path, the sheet is formed in the desired shape. The
materials used in this research are procured from the local market of Pakistan, hence suggesting
the automakers over here to try new lines of manufacturing that uses indigenous materials to
minimize imports.
This study is based on the incremental formability of two materials; Al 5083 and Low Carbon
Steel (0.04% Carbon). Both materials are readily available in the local market. The research
targets the results of ABAQUS simulations run on the aforementioned materials to
experimentally verify them and see their applicability on the practical sid.

, Coronary artery diseases remain one of the leading causes of mortality, with the incidence of death rate being 20% in Pakistan. The disease causes deposition of plaque on the lumen of the blood vessels that narrow the coronary arteries (blood) hindering the blood flow to the heart and rest of the tissues. The treatment procedure of the disease involves delivering the expandable device (balloon/stent) to the target region. Guide catheters plays a crucial role for the advancement of these treatment devices (stent/balloon). Guide catheters are hollow tubular structures of 100-110 cm in length, which are required to provide support, and facilitate the delivery of the stent/balloon at the target region. The guide catheter is made to enter the body via the wrist/femoral artery. From here, it traverses all the way to the heart while passing through blood vessels of varying diameter, and a tortuous anatomy of the body. In fact, the pathway of the guide catheter is not a straight, rather a curved path. It is important for the guide catheter to have certain mechanical characteristics to reach the heart without causing any vascular trauma. The performance of the guide catheter heavily relies on its braided shaft, and the outer jacket. Spontaneous movement of the catheter due to its instability, coronary dissections due to a high push force, and arterial spasms resulting from the friction are a few common problems of guide catheters used commercially. The current research is focused on catering these challenges by optimizing the pitch of the braided shaft and jacketing the shaft with a polymer unique to commercial catheters. In order to find the best guide catheter to meet the challenges presented in the literature, three guide catheters of varying pitch were designed, and coated with a polyimide jacket material. The protypes were tested for performance under mechanical, and physically testing and the candidate performing the best was selected. The guide catheter that performed the best in providing the longitudinal stiffness, reducing the friction, and decreasing the push force was chosen, and bench tested.

, Endocrine disorders have severe consequences for reproductive health and, overall, the
woman’s condition. The role of this research is to establish the level of hormonal
imbalance resulting in reproductive and other diseases among women in south Punjab,
Pakistan. Thus, the present study has adopted a cross-sectional, observational research
design in choosing 430 females from Bahawalpur Victoria hospital. Serum samples were
also taken from females and hormonal assays performed on the collected samples in
endocrine lab. The collected data were analyzed statistically to compare hormonal levels
with health status of the women. The findings of the study were that the common
symptoms were fatigue, cravings for food, and the high level of obesity among the
participants. Hormonal level was correlated with amenorrhea, oligomenorrhea, type 2
diabetes, and insomnia at the considerable level. Serum levels of CA- 125 and AFP
were also raised significantly with ovarian cancer. Some other common manifestations
were psychological, such as depression, anxiety, increased, and insomnia. Also, the most
frequent reproductive symptoms identified were pain and swelling of the breasts, benign
breast diseases, and night sweating. The survey work showed high prevalence of hair loss
and hirsutism to above the norms, therefore pointing at dermatological consequences of
hormonal disturbances. Another group of marriage-related problems that were also
identified were fertility problems which were also common affecting a large percentage
of the population. No significant associations were found between hormonal levels and
certain conditions such as cardiovascular disease and liver disease. The hormonal testing
showed dysregulation in FSH and LH and estrogen and progesterone and thyroid
hormones. Women of south Punjab are undergoing hormonal imbalance, which includes
reproductive health problems and other health related concerns. Focused education on
symptoms, early checkups, and encompassing medical approaches are useful in reducing
effects of hormonal fluctuations in this group of ladies.

	   <p>By Awais, Muhammad .

                        . 113p.
, Ensuring consistent product quality is a critical challenge in the biscuit
manufacturing industry, particularly in developing economies like Pakistan, where
manual inspection remains the norm. This approach, however, is prone to human error,
fatigue, and inconsistency, leading to variable quality control outcomes. This research
proposes an intelligent, machine learning–based automated quality inspection system
tailored for real-world biscuit production lines. A comprehensive dataset of 40,000
high-resolution images was curated, representing four popular biscuit varieties Rio,
Sooper, Candy, and Marie captured under actual factory lighting conditions. The
dataset includes both defective and non-defective samples, covering a wide range of
defect types such as breakage, charring, deformation, and missing pieces. To ensure
high-quality annotations with scalable efficiency, a semi-automated iterative annotation
framework was developed, combining initial manual labeling with model-assisted
annotation and human-in-the-loop refinement across multiple cycles. Multiple state-ofthe-art machine learning models were implemented, fine-tuned, and rigorously
evaluated, including YOLOv8, YOLOv11, YOLOv12, Faster R-CNN (via Detectron2),
and Vision Transformer (ViT-B/16). Models were assessed using key performance
metrics such as mAP@0.5:0.95, precision, recall, F1-score, inference speed (FPS), and
computational efficiency. The results demonstrate that modern deep learning models,
particularly YOLOv12 and Vision Transformers, achieve high detection accuracy
(mAP &gt; 90%) while maintaining feasibility for real-time deployment when optimized.
This study provides a comparative analysis of accuracy-speed trade-offs, offering
actionable insights for manufacturers seeking cost-effective, scalable solutions. The
research concludes with practical recommendations for integrating AI-driven
inspection systems into existing production infrastructure in resource-constrained
environments, balancing performance, hardware requirements, and long-term
maintainability.

, Climate change has intensified the demand for accurate long-term temperature forecasting,
particularly in highly vulnerable regions such as Pakistan, where rising temperatures and
extreme events threaten agriculture, water security, public health, and infrastructure.
Conventional climate models, including General Circulation Models (GCMs) and Regional
Climate Models (RCMs), provide essential large-scale projections but face constraints in
spatial resolution, computational cost, and applicability in data-scarce contexts. Recent
advances in deep learning offer powerful alternatives, capable of capturing complex nonlinear relationships and producing high-resolution forecasts that can also inform the
computation of extreme climate indices. This study integrates DL based forecasting with
extreme temperature index computation to generate actionable insights for adaptation
planning in Major Cities of Pakistan. Daily temperature data from the EC-EARTH3-VEG
climate model (converted to °C) were bias-corrected using quantile mapping under two
Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSP4.8 and SSP5.85). After data preprocessing multiple
deep learning models LSTM, CNN-LSTM, Transformer, Transformer XL and Deep
Ensemble with Monte Carlo (MC) Dropout, were trained on 1980–2040 data and evaluated
for 2040–2050 and then forecasted till 2100. Model was assessed using MAE, RMSE, R²
with MC dropout. Deep Ensemble outperformed all the single model (MAE = 0.4588;
RMSE = 0.751; R² = 0.992). Projections indicate a Tmax rise of ~2–4 °C and Tmin rise of
~1.5–3 °C by 2100. According to extreme climates indices calculation there continue to be
increases in warming, especially with regards to more heat waves that last longer in
addition to increases in the number of hot days and warm nights as well as fewer frost days.
The warming of nights more than the warming of days, closing the diurnal temperature
range. There is also more total precipitation which is distributed in a growing number of
days, and longer periods of rain which means that heavier rains are becoming less common,
which indicates the beginnings of a warmer, more humid, but drier and stressed climate.
The study highlights that DL Ensemble frameworks can deliver robust, long term
temperature projections and calculation of extreme indices for 25 major cities of Pakistan
and for sake of brevity only data of Lahore, Karachi, Quetta and Gilgit city shown in paper
reset are in appendix.

, Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgeries are becoming increasingly common globally as
an effective measure to counter knee arthritis. Total knee replacement implants are very
advantageous in a sense that they offer 99% success rate to patients. This thesis presents
the design, simulation and additive manufacturing of a patient specific, Functionally
Graded Lattice Structure (FGLS) knee implant in Ti 6Al-4V alloy with specific reference
to the healthcare situation in Pakistan. This was to explore the local manufacturing facilities
of Pakistan as all knee implants are imported from abroad.
The strategy involved a high degree of workflow consisting of Computer-Aided Design
(CAD), finite element analysis (FEA), and topology optimization using nTopology to
create Gyroid-based lattice work. The structures were to resemble the trabecular bone
structure to ensure that stiffness discrepancies were minimized. This helped counter only
one drawback of solid knee implants, stress shielding.
The simulations of the physiological loading conditions (static and cyclic) demonstrated a
Von Mises peak of 620.45 Mpa and safety factor of 12.66 on the average and unlimited
predicted life of fatigue of over 10^7 cycles. The use of FGLS was effective in making the
weight of 490 g to 292, leading to a 40 percent weight reduction, with no structural integrity
lost. Selective Laser Melding (SLM) was used to fabricate the implant and the heat
treatment allowed stress relieving of the additively manufactured implant.
Compressive testing was also mechanically vindicated to be on an of average 95.02 kN
with little variation and Micro-CT scanning confirmed high dimensional fidelity and
showed internal lattice geometries without defects. According to this research, SLM
produced FGLS implants usage has proven to be an option to traditional prosthetics, which
is mechanically stable, biologically desirable, and cost-effective, and has a bright future of
being a locally manufactured orthopedics product.

, Water scarcity is a major problem, which the world is facing at the present moment.
Most of the earth’s water is saline, comprising about 97 %. Solar still is a very economical
and easy method for water desalination. This experimental research was conducted to
enhance the output of square pyramid type solar still incorporating PCM (paraffin wax)
and Fresnel lenses concentrating sunlight on bricks placed in basin area. Effect of hot water
circulation in PCM was also observed on solar still distillate output enhancement.
Experiments were conducted at different water depth levels (i.e., 1, 2, 3 and 4 cm) in
Islamabad, Pakistan. Nocturnal output was observed to increase by using Fresnel lenses.
Solar still output was observed to increase from 1 cm to 3cm in nocturnal hours and then
started to decrease. When Fresnel lens was used, maximum distillate output in autumn and
spring season was 0.9 L and 1.68 L at 1 cm water depth. Maximum distillate in simple
experimental cases (without Fresnel lens utilization) was also at 1cm water depth. In
autumn season it was 0.85 L and in spring 1.55 L. Circulation of hot water in PCM chamber
increased both daytime and nocturnal output of solar still significantly
                         30cm.
